Waiting for My State Board Exams: What’s Next?

I’m thrilled to share I’ve officially completed my esthetics course, and now, I’m waiting to take my written and practical exams required to become a licensed esthetician in New York. This is the home stretch, and it’s both nerve-wracking and exciting!

What I’ve Learned So Far

Over the past few months, I’ve deepened my understanding of skincare science, honed my technique in facials, lashes, waxing, and makeup, and built a good rhythm through clinic hours. But the real heart of my passion lies in facials and lash work. They’re where I feel most confident and connected with clients.

Exam Prep Mode: What I'm Doing Now

  • Reviewing key theory topics like sanitation, ingredients, disorders, and state laws (yes, I’m brushing up on the NY rules too!).

  • Practicing my practical flow: from sanitizing the workspace to the facial, massage, mask, lash routines, so it all feels seamless and second nature.

  • Rewatching videos and using flashcards to reinforce muscle memory and recall.

  • Checking off my exam day checklist: IDs, kit organization, labeled tools, and professional attire.

Behind the Scenes: Esthi Student Real Talk

Let's be real, between studying, clinic hours, social life, and trying to unwind, it’s a lot. I’ve leaned on those mini self-care rituals, daily walks, and iced tea lemonade breaks to recharge and stay grounded. I’m learning (again and again) that taking care of yourself is the best way to show up for others.

What’s Next on Beauty Notes?

  • Exam-Day Tips: From what to pack in your kit to how to keep calm

  • Your Study Playlists, Tools & Cheats: What I’m using to stay focused

  • Skincare Breakdowns: What I’m testing on my skin while prepping (hello, cortisol-induced breakouts)

Thank you for following along. Let’s pass these exams!
